Episode 19 – Computer Programming and Technology Tips Part 2
How do people who can’t see a computer screen navigate a website? Colleen and her website designer, Cheryl, talk about basics of web design and programming for visually impaired users. Understand more about how blind people might experience the internet and learn how easy it can be to make your site accessible to more people. Colleen and Cheryl discuss the importance of Alt Text and labeling in images, tables, links and buttons, using headings to create a logical screen-reading experience, how overlays can make your site completely inaccessible, and how to size your elements.
Colleen also created this youtube video so you can see a common screen-reader in action. Watch the screen reader video.

Hi Colleen and Cheryl!
Wow! Great Podcast! I have a question that I am hoping you can answer! How do you feel about accordions; does JAWS have any issues reading them? Is there any settings (on the website end) that would make it easier for a visually impaired individual to read an accordion style list of content?
I work for a company that makes low vision bioptics and we recently launched our new website. I would like it to be as accessible as possible so I have been doing a lot of research on ways to make this happen- and I plan on downloading a free screen reader to test on our site. Thanks in advance and again, awesome website and great podcasts!
